My first experience with neurodivergence was when I started my university placement with TEC. I started to recognise that I related to a lot of the things I was learning about autism and ADHD. Then, talking to my co-workers made me consider my neurodivergence more seriously. More recently, it’s been a hyperfocus for me to talk about neurodivergence with my partner and friends and seeing how they relate. This pushed my partner to be diagnosed with ADHD and suspected as autistic, and has led me to my own diagnosis journey!
My long-term passion is definitely a bit of a cliché - helping people, which led me to study Human Services, but I’ve also realised that I’ve always loved solving mysteries.
As a kid, I loved puzzles and mystery shows and this evolved into me studying Justice at uni partially through a great interest in true crime. This passion has led me to Instinct as I love learning about how everyone’s brains are different and how I can adapt my approach to fit each brain.
My current hyperfocus is the gym. I’ve always been ‘anti gym’ but in the last few months I’ve really gotten into it and noticed that the routine and movement have been a great regulation tool for me. I also love makeup and skincare and while they’re not my current hyperfocus, I could absolutely talk your ear off if you asked me anything about them!
I love to watch my comfort shows to regulate - Pretty Little Liars, New Girl, Brooklyn Nine Nine, The Office. I also love to bury myself with my numerous plushies and rant to my dog. A long hot shower with some music in the background is always super helpful too.
My favourite thing about working with Instinct has been learning about different brains and how regulation can look so different for everyone. I’ve also been able to take regulation strategies that I’ve learned into my own life which have helped me to be more emotionally regulated.
I provide in person services in the Brisbane area.
